A Rohingya youth was injured in a landmine explosion near the Bangladesh-Myanmar border on Thursday afternoon, with the device reportedly planted by the Arakan Army.
The injured youth, Hamid Hossain Sundari, sustained injuries inside Myanmar territory before crossing into Bangladesh for medical assistance.
According to New Age, the explosion occurred at around 3:30pm opposite the Palongkhali Border Outpost under Ukhiya upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
With assistance from Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel and local residents, Hamid was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Hamid, son of late Kalam Hossain, is a resident of Block C-27 of the registered Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya.
The incident adds to security concerns along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, where ongoing conflict in Myanmar's Rakhine State has repeatedly affected border communities and displaced Rohingya populations.
