Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for stronger trade, investment, and development cooperation between Bangladesh and China during a farewell meeting with outgoing Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen.

The meeting was held yesterday at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat, where the two sides also discussed issues of mutual interest, including the Rohingya crisis.

Yao Wen congratulated the prime minister on his participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and the successful completion of his engagements in New York.

The Chinese ambassador reaffirmed Beijing’s continued support for Bangladesh’s development efforts and expressed hope that bilateral relations would become stronger in the coming days.

The meeting came as Bangladesh and China continue to maintain close economic and development ties, with trade, investment and infrastructure cooperation remaining important areas of bilateral engagement.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Rohingya crisis, an issue on which Bangladesh has repeatedly sought greater international support for a sustainable solution and the safe and dignified return of the displaced Rohingya population to Myanmar.
