Khalid bin Salman spoke with Asim Munir on Saturday to review the security situation and discuss Iran’s recent attacks targeting Saudi Arabia.

In a statement posted on social media, Prince Khalid said the two sides reviewed “Iranian attacks on the Kingdom and the measures needed to halt them within the framework of our Joint Strategic Defense Agreement.” He added that both leaders stressed such actions threaten regional security and stability and expressed hope that Iran would act with caution and avoid further escalation.

The conversation comes as the conflict in the Middle East continues to widen following the large-scale military campaign launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28. Since then, Tehran has reportedly targeted multiple locations across the Gulf region while also striking US and Israeli military assets.

According to Arab News, Saudi authorities intercepted several drones that were reportedly heading toward the Shaybah oil field located in the remote Empty Quarter desert on Saturday. Officials said the drones were successfully shot down before reaching the facility.

Earlier in the week, a drone strike targeted the United States Embassy in Riyadh, causing a small fire but no casualties. The incident highlighted growing security concerns as the conflict expands across the region.

The escalation has also raised fears about global energy markets, as Iran continues to threaten shipping routes through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global oil supplies.

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed a Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement in September last year, pledging that aggression against either nation would be treated as an attack on both.

Separately, Saudi Interior Minister Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif received a phone call from Pakistan’s Interior Minister Raza Naqvi, who condemned the attacks on the Kingdom and reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity in confronting threats to Saudi Arabia’s security and stability, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
