Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman has emphasized that a durable and lasting solution to the protracted Rohingya crisis must be found in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, urging the international community to intensify efforts to ensure the safe, dignified and voluntary repatriation of displaced Rohingyas.

He made the remarks while speaking as a panelist at a session titled “Global Refugee Protection System in the Face of Displacement Crisis” at the ongoing Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2026 in Turkey on Friday. The foreign minister stressed that the global community must move beyond humanitarian assistance and adopt a more proactive, result-oriented approach to creating favourable conditions in Rakhine for the sustainable return of the Rohingya population.

Highlighting growing challenges, Dr. Rahman expressed deep concern over declining international donor support for the Rohingya response. He called for increased funding, enhanced security and stability in Rakhine State, and urgent measures to safeguard human rights to facilitate repatriation. He underscored that without addressing root causes inside Myanmar, the crisis would remain unresolved.

According to BSS, the foreign minister also noted that since assuming office, both the Government of Myanmar and the Arakan Army have welcomed engagement efforts, which he described as a positive sign for dialogue and cooperation. He added that the Rohingya issue is solvable, but requires a coordinated global approach and sustained international cooperation.

Dr. Rahman reiterated Bangladesh’s continued commitment to working with international partners to find a lasting solution, while urging the global community to share responsibility in addressing one of the world’s most pressing displacement crises.
