Yao Wen, China’s ambassador to Bangladesh, has reaffirmed Beijing’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with Dhaka in key areas of water resources management, officials said.

The envoy made the remarks during a meeting on Tuesday with Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee and State Minister Forhad Hossain Azad, where both sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral collaboration in the water sector.

According to UNB, the discussions centred on expanding cooperation in hydrological data sharing, flood forecasting, capacity building, and training of personnel, alongside the implementation of water conservancy projects.

Ambassador Yao highlighted that China and Bangladesh have enjoyed long-standing cooperation in water management, which has produced “fruitful results” over the years. He added that Beijing stands ready to further support Dhaka in improving technical expertise and infrastructure in the sector.

The Bangladeshi side underscored that water resources management remains a key pillar of bilateral relations, expressing optimism about deepening experience-sharing initiatives and practical cooperation for mutual benefit.

Officials noted that enhanced collaboration in flood control and river management is particularly significant for Bangladesh, given its vulnerability to climate change and seasonal flooding.
