Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have discussed strengthening bilateral ties, with trade and investment, migration, humanitarian support for Rohingya refugees and regional and international affairs high on the agenda.

The issues were discussed during a meeting between British High Commissioner Sarah Cook and Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

According to New Age, Cook congratulated Kobir on his recent appointment and expressed her interest in working closely with him and the Bangladesh government to further expand cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Cook described the UK-Bangladesh relationship as broad and increasingly strong. She said the discussions covered several shared priorities, including boosting trade and investment, strengthening cooperation on migration and supporting the humanitarian response to the Rohingya crisis.

The British envoy also underscored the longstanding links between the peoples of Bangladesh and the UK, pointing to strong people-to-people connections as well as established commercial and diplomatic relations.

Cook said the two countries also remained closely engaged on regional and global issues, reflecting the wider scope of their bilateral partnership.

She expressed hope that continued engagement with Kobir and the Bangladesh government would help translate the existing relationship into practical outcomes benefiting both countries.
