Bangladesh and China have discussed expanding cooperation on transport corridors, connectivity, investment and energy as the two countries seek to deepen their comprehensive cooperative partnership and strengthen regional economic ties.

The discussions took place during a bilateral meeting between Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila. Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir also attended the meeting.

According to BSS, the two foreign ministers reviewed a broad range of bilateral issues aimed at advancing the Bangladesh-China comprehensive cooperative partnership and jointly building a "China-Bangladesh Community with a Shared Future."

Transport corridor cooperation featured prominently during the talks, with both sides exchanging views on enhancing regional connectivity as part of broader efforts to strengthen economic engagement. The ministers also discussed expanding cooperation in investment, energy and other sectors of mutual interest.

The Rohingya crisis also figured in the discussions, with Bangladesh reiterating the importance of China's continued engagement in facilitating the safe, voluntary and sustainable repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Bangladesh to Myanmar.

The meeting underscored the two countries' commitment to further expanding multifaceted bilateral cooperation, with connectivity, infrastructure, investment, energy and economic partnership remaining key priorities in their growing relationship.
