Bangladesh has approved an emergency grant of $1 million (about Tk 123 million) to assist people affected by devastating landslides and flash floods in northern Nepal, officials said on Wednesday.

The aid comes as Nepal faces severe disruption from natural disasters that have affected communities and infrastructure in the northern parts of the country. Bangladesh said the assistance reflects the longstanding friendship and historic ties between Dhaka and Kathmandu.

According to The Daily Observer, the funds will be provided from a special allocation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the current fiscal year. The grant was approved following a directive from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The emergency assistance is expected to support relief and recovery efforts for communities affected by the landslides and flash floods. It also highlights Bangladesh’s growing focus on regional humanitarian cooperation and solidarity with neighboring South Asian countries during natural disasters.
