An Air India flight from Thailand’s Phuket to New Delhi encountered severe turbulence shortly before landing on Tuesday, leaving 12 people, including passengers and cabin crew members, injured, Indian media reported.

The aircraft, operating as flight AI2379, experienced a brief turbulence-related incident while cruising, causing a sudden change in altitude, according to Air India. The plane later landed safely at Delhi airport, and all passengers and crew members disembarked normally.

Citing initial information, PTI reported that 10 passengers and two cabin crew members sustained injuries during the turbulence. None of the injuries were reported to be serious, according to the airline.

“Passengers and crew members with minor injuries requiring medical assessment have been taken to a medical facility at the airport as a precautionary measure,” Air India said in a statement, adding that its airport team and medical personnel were assisting those affected.

Flight-tracking data from Flightradar24 showed that the Airbus A320 aircraft experienced an altitude drop during the final phase of its journey before arriving at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Air India said it was extending all necessary support to the injured passengers and crew while cooperating with authorities investigating the incident.

The latest incident comes amid growing concerns over turbulence-related disruptions in aviation, though most such events result in minor injuries when passengers are properly secured with seat belts.
