Argentina continued their flawless FIFA World Cup campaign with a commanding 3-1 victory over Jordan in Dallas, as Lionel Messi came off the bench to score and extend his remarkable list of international records.

With Argentina already assured of top spot in Group J, head coach Lionel Scaloni opted to rest Messi at the start. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner entered the match in the 60th minute to a thunderous ovation from the crowd, and delivered another memorable moment 20 minutes later by curling a superb free-kick around the wall to seal the victory.

The goal was Messi's sixth of the tournament, moving him two clear of his closest rivals in the race for the Golden Boot. It also marked his record-extending 19th FIFA World Cup goal and made him the first player in history to score in seven consecutive World Cup matches.

According to BBC Sport, former England midfielder Danny Murphy described Messi's display as "simply incredible," praising the Argentine captain's intelligence, awareness and enduring ability to influence matches whenever he steps onto the pitch.

Argentina had taken the lead in the first half through Giovani Lo Celso, who curled a brilliant free-kick into the top corner. Lautaro Martinez doubled the advantage from the penalty spot after a video review awarded a spot-kick when Marcos Senesi was kicked in the head while attempting to head the ball.

Jordan briefly threatened a comeback early in the second half with a well-worked team goal. Substitute Mousa Al Tamari finished off an excellent cross from Ehsan Haddad to reduce the deficit, but Argentina remained firmly in control.

Messi's introduction lifted the atmosphere inside the stadium, with every touch drawing excitement from the fans. His trademark free-kick ensured Argentina maintained their perfect record in the tournament and further strengthened their status as one of the favourites to lift the World Cup trophy.
