Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus is set to visit China later this month, with a focus on strengthening bilateral relations and advancing economic and regional development.

According to the interim government, Yunus will depart for China on March 26 and hold crucial talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on March 28. Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed the visit while speaking to reporters, emphasizing its significance in enhancing Bangladesh-China ties, the Dhaka Tribune reported.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Alam stated that the discussions between Yunus and Xi would center on key bilateral issues, particularly economic cooperation and trade. “This visit is expected to solidify our partnership with China and help us achieve our goal of becoming a global manufacturing hub,” he said.
China has been a major development partner for Bangladesh, contributing to various infrastructure projects and industrial growth. Strengthening economic collaboration with Beijing could open new avenues for investment, trade, and technology transfer, further boosting Bangladesh’s economic landscape.

Focus on Regional Development
Yunus’s visit aligns with Dhaka’s broader vision to position Bangladesh as a leader in regional economic development. Enhanced connectivity, trade agreements, and Chinese investments in Bangladesh’s energy and industrial sectors are expected to be high on the agenda.
Bangladesh’s growing role in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) will likely be discussed, as increased infrastructural cooperation with China can further integrate Bangladesh into global trade networks, fostering regional stability and economic 
growth.

Addressing the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA)
During his trip, Yunus will also deliver a speech at the prestigious Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) on March 27. The forum, an initiative involving 25 Asian nations and Australia, serves as a key platform for discussing economic and global issues affecting the region. His address will focus on Asia’s evolving role in the world economy, highlighting Bangladesh’s aspirations and contributions.

Preparations for the Visit

Earlier on Sunday, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen met with Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna to discuss the upcoming visit. The meeting underscored the importance China places on this diplomatic engagement, which is being viewed as a milestone in Bangladesh-China relations.
With this visit, Bangladesh aims to secure stronger economic ties, attract foreign investment, and enhance regional trade partnerships. The outcome of the discussions with China could have a lasting impact on Bangladesh’s economic trajectory and its role in Asia’s growth story.
