Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has described the Rohingya crisis as one of the most significant humanitarian disasters of the current era, stating that the Rohingya people are facing a "terrible situation" and have been stripped of their citizenship "purely because they are Muslims."

Dr. Yunus made these remarks during a meeting with a Turkish parliamentary delegation at the State Guest House Jamuna on Monday (October 03).

The five-member Turkish delegation was led by Mehmet Akif Yılmaz, President of the Turkey-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Group. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations, particularly in sectors like trade, investment, and humanitarian assistance.

Mr. Yılmaz highlighted the deep cultural and historical ties shared between Turkey and Bangladesh. He noted that the delegation had visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar, where they observed humanitarian efforts from various organizations, including a Turkish field hospital.

The Chief Adviser expressed his gratitude for Turkey's "unwavering support" for the Rohingya refugees and extended an invitation to Turkish investors to explore opportunities in Bangladesh.

Dr. Yunus also voiced grave concern over the future of Rohingya children, who have been living in refugee camps for eight years. He warned that their lack of access to education and a clear future path could breed "frustration and instability", DBC Reported 

Finally, the Chief Adviser conveyed his deep appreciation to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his wife for their continuous support and empathy towards Bangladesh, affirming that Bangladesh is prepared to work closely with Turkey to create new opportunities for the benefit of both.
