The United States Department of State has congratulated the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its chairman Tarique Rahman on their electoral victory, expressing Washington’s desire to work closely with the new government in Dhaka to promote shared goals of prosperity and regional security.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended his greetings in a social media post on Wednesday, noting, “Congratulations to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its leader Tarique Rahman as well as the people of Bangladesh. The United States looks forward to working with the newly elected government to advance prosperity and the security of the region.”

According to a Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) report, the message from Washington comes amid growing international attention to Bangladesh’s post-election political transition. Diplomatic sources said the United States aims to deepen cooperation in areas including economic growth, governance, and maritime stability in the Bay of Bengal region.

Rubio’s statement highlighted Washington’s continued support for democratic processes in Bangladesh and its commitment to advancing bilateral ties. Observers view this gesture as a signal of renewed engagement between Dhaka and Washington following the recent change in government.

BNP leaders have welcomed the congratulatory message, terming it a “positive indication” of international confidence in Bangladesh’s democratic institutions and the new administration’s global partnerships.
