Thai authorities have announced plans to seek arrest warrants for three senior officers of Myanmar’s Border Guard Forces in connection with human trafficking charges. The development was reported by The National daily, quoting Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong on Tuesday (February 11) .
The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has gathered sufficient evidence to request the Criminal Court to issue warrants for Col. Saw Chit Thu, Lt. Col. Mote Thone, and Maj. Tin Win. The case, which dates back several years, reportedly involves the detention of Thai nationals in Myanmar.

Justice Minister Sodsong clarified that this investigation is unrelated to the recent call center scam operations that have drawn significant attention. He also noted that intelligence in this case was not linked to the recent visit of the Chinese assistant public security minister to Thailand.
While specifics were not provided, Thai Defense Minister Sutin Klungsang hinted that multiple foreign nationals were involved in the trafficking network.

The Thai government has intensified its crackdown on illicit activities along the Myanmar border. Recently, Thailand cut off electricity and fuel supplies to several Myanmar border areas in an effort to disrupt scam centers that have been implicated in human trafficking. Since the power cuts, Thai police and military forces have arrested numerous individuals attempting to smuggle fuel into Myanmar, according to the Thai Public Broadcasting Service.

The latest move underscores Thailand’s determination to combat transnational crime and human trafficking, as authorities continue to work with international partners to dismantle such operations.
