A group of protesters carrying saffron flags staged a demonstration outside the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata on Friday, December 26, protesting the killing of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district.

The demonstrators brought out a procession from Sealdah Railway Station and attempted to march towards the Bangladesh mission. However, police stopped the march at the Behala Bagan intersection, preventing the protesters from reaching the diplomatic premises.

The protest was led by West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Later in the day, a four-member delegation headed by Suvendu met the Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Suvendu said the delegation sought an explanation regarding the killing of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh. He added that the Bangladesh envoy assured them that those arrested in connection with the murder would not be granted bail and that the Bangladesh government had taken responsibility for the victim’s family.

Earlier, on December 22 and 23, several Hindu organisations had staged protests outside the Bangladesh mission in Kolkata, alleging attacks on minority communities in Bangladesh.
