Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin has raised concerns over the mounting challenges the country faces in hosting Rohingya refugees, particularly as international funding continues to dwindle.

During a meeting with UNHCR Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific Hai Kyung Jun at the foreign ministry, Jashim Uddin expressed hope that the upcoming high-level UN conference on Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar will draw global attention and mobilize much-needed support for the displaced community.

According to a foreign ministry press release, Jun thanked Bangladesh for its generosity in sheltering over a million Rohingya refugees, also known as Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN). She also briefed the Foreign Secretary on the ongoing humanitarian assistance provided by UNHCR.

Jashim Uddin reiterated the call for a sustainable resolution to the crisis, echoing Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain’s stance at the recent six-nation consultation in Bangkok. He emphasized the need for better coordination among UN agencies to bolster support for both the refugee camps and host communities.

Jun assured that UNHCR is exploring diverse funding sources and plans to launch the Joint Response Plan (JRP)-2025 for the FDMNs soon.
