Human rights organization Fortify Rights has called for the immediate closure of the Bhasan Char camp, alleging that forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (FDAMs) living there are facing severe restrictions.

At a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Wednesday(January 21), the Thailand-based group released a 36-page report based on more than a hundred interviews conducted over five years. The report claims that FDAMs in Bhasan Char are enduring harsh conditions that limit their freedom and access to essential services.

The organization’s director said, “Being displaced is not a crime. Rohingya need support, and the next government must end the Bhasan Char project.”

Fortify Rights urged the authorities to ensure protection and dignity for the displaced population and to take steps toward sustainable and humane solutions.
