At least three children were killed and five others injured when an airstrike hit a school sheltering displaced families in Loikaw Township, Kayah State, on October 31, as fresh attacks on civilian sites in Rakhine State reportedly claimed the lives of a newborn baby and healthcare workers.

UNICEF said it was deeply alarmed by the attacks, warning that children were increasingly exposed to violence in places meant to provide safety, education and medical care.

The latest strikes in Rakhine State over the weekend also targeted a temporary healthcare facility, adding to concerns over the growing risks faced by civilians as fighting continues across Myanmar.

The attacks have further highlighted the vulnerability of displaced children, who are increasingly losing access to safe education and essential healthcare as the conflict spreads.

UNICEF urged all parties to the conflict to respect international humanitarian law and take immediate steps to protect children and civilian infrastructure.

The UN agency stressed that schools, hospitals and other facilities serving vulnerable communities must not become targets of military operations.

UNICEF said it was working with humanitarian partners to assess the impact of the attacks and coordinate assistance for affected children and their families.
