The tremor was recorded by The US Geological Survey (USGS) at 10:39 am local time. According to the agency’s data, the epicenter was located in the Andaman Sea, approximately 267 kilometers west-southwest of the Myanmar coastal city of Dawei.

The quake was classified as a shallow event, originating at a depth of just 10 kilometers. Shallow earthquakes, while often more intensely felt closer to the epicenter, can sometimes cause widespread impact. However, initial reports from both Myanmar and Thailand confirm that no injuries or major structural damages have been reported.

While seismic events are not uncommon in this active tectonic region, the immediate lack of major impact from this 5.3-magnitude tremor has provided reassurance to local residents. Monitoring of the area is ongoing for any potential aftershocks.
