Mohamed Muizzu arrived in the Bangladeshi capital on today to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the country’s new cabinet led by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, marking an important moment in bilateral diplomacy.

President Muizzu was received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Foreign Adviser M Touhid Hossain and other senior officials.

The Maldivian leader is in Dhaka to participate in the official oath-taking ceremony of the newly formed government following Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliamentary Election held on February 12. According to BSS, his visit reflects the longstanding cordial ties between the two South Asian nations and signals a renewed commitment to deepening cooperation in areas of shared interest.

Diplomatic sources said the visit underscores the close and friendly relations between Bangladesh and the Maldives, particularly in sectors such as trade, tourism, climate resilience and people-to-people exchanges. The two countries have maintained steady engagement over the years through high-level visits and multilateral forums.

President Muizzu’s presence at the ceremony is viewed as a gesture of goodwill and support for Bangladesh’s democratic transition, further strengthening bilateral partnership in the region.
