Malaysia's Foreign Minister, Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan, is set to arrive in Myanmar today (October 9) for a one-day working visit to discuss the implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus and encourage inclusive dialogue to resolve the country's ongoing crisis, the Malaysian government announced.

During his visit to Naypyidaw, the Foreign Minister is scheduled to hold meetings with top military leadership, including State Administration Council Chairman Min Aung Hlaing, Nyo Saw, and Than Swe. The ASEAN Special Envoy will also accompany the minister on this trip.

According to the announcement, the visit follows a resolution from the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in July. The key objectives of the mission are to press for concrete progress on the Five-Point Consensus, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and advocate for the start of an inclusive dialogue process involving all relevant parties. The minister is also expected to discuss the military's preparations for a potential general election.

The Malaysian government clarified that the Foreign Minister's visit and mediation efforts are being carried out under the authority of the ASEAN Chair. It also reiterated Malaysia's support for a "Myanmar-led" resolution to the crisis.
