Dr. Khalilur Rahman, High Representative to the Chief Adviser on Rohingya Crisis and Priority Issues Affairs, has called on Rohingya communities to unite and present a cohesive stance in preparation for the upcoming "International Conference on the Rohingya Muslims," scheduled to take place at the United Nations later this year.

In a statement, Dr. Rahman emphasized that a unified position from the Rohingyas, a critical stakeholder in the conference, would play a pivotal role in shaping an outcome that is both timely and action-oriented. Such an outcome, he suggested, would lay the foundation for their long-term and sustainable repatriation.

Dr. Rahman made his appeal during a visit to the refugee camps in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, where he met with a diverse group of displaced Rohingyas, according to a press release from the Foreign Ministry.

The United Nations General Assembly had, in September 2024, unanimously decided to convene the International Conference this year, following the advocacy of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

During his address, Dr. Rahman urged the Rohingya community to avoid engaging in illegal and violent activities, advising them to focus their efforts on peacefully resolving their situation.

In response, participants at the gathering committed to working together to establish a shared platform to articulate their unified position. They also expressed deep gratitude to the people of Bangladesh for their ongoing support and to Professor Yunus for his vigorous efforts in advocating for the Rohingya cause on the international stage.

Additionally, Dr. Rahman met with the United Nations system team providing humanitarian aid to the displaced Rohingyas, where they discussed issues of mutual concern.

UN Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis assured the group that the UN leadership fully supports the Chief Adviser and the High Representative in their efforts related to the Rohingya crisis and the forthcoming International Conference.
