Strong allegations have surfaced linking the Santu Larma-led Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) to a significant drug trafficking operation in Mizoram, India. A review of District and Sessions Court documents shows that at least 11 Chakma individuals were arrested over the past year (2024-2025) under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

According to the court's case status, those arrested include Barun Chakma, Daniel Chakma, Dippu Chakma, Lotika Chakma, Nungnang Chakma, Sanatan Chakma, Dibon Tong Sanggya, and Sanjit Chakma.

Beyond these cases, two other massive drug seizures underscore the scale of the alleged network. On June 19 of this year, Sapna Chakma and Punyasur Chakma were apprehended with narcotics valued at ₹10.43 crore. Following this, on August 21, Shanti Jibon Chakma and Brishadhan Chakma were arrested with drugs worth ₹1.2 crore. The case details for these four high-profile arrests have not yet been reflected in the court's online case status.

A local police source reported that most of those arrested have claimed to be mere "couriers," asserting they do not know the identities of the drug owners or the network's controllers.

However, an investigation by Aizawl Police has reportedly uncovered a multi-layered JSS network operating behind drug shipments originating from the border areas of Khagrachari and Rangamati.

According to police officials, inquiries into each case have repeatedly pointed toward the involvement of the PCJSS leadership. The alleged complicity of Santu Larma’s family and his inner circle has reportedly been a direct subject of discussion during the investigations.

The allegations are not limited to narcotics. The JSS is also accused of being heavily involved in smuggling various other goods, including cattle, cosmetics, Burmese cigarettes, and alcohol. This vast network, allegedly dependent on illicit funds, has sparked deep concern among the local community.

Experts have warned that if the criminal activities of JSS leaders located in Mizoram and Tripura are not brought under control, there is a significant risk of larger, more powerful criminal syndicates forming in the border region.
