Cambodia has lodged a strong protest after Thai troops reportedly moved shipping containers and razor wire about one kilometre inside Cambodian territory, escalating tensions along the disputed border area near the Boeng Trakuon crossing. The deployment comes despite a ceasefire agreement, raising fresh concerns over stability in the region.

Homes near the Boeng Trakuon roundabout were damaged during a series of attacks between December 7 and 27, 2025, leaving many families displaced. Local authorities say the damage was caused by Thai military fire, forcing residents to flee amid fears of further violence. Several households have yet to return, citing ongoing security risks and the destruction of property.

The contested zone covers four villages—Phlov Damrei, Samakki Meanchey, Banteay Mean Rithy and Boeung Samraong—within Kork Romiet commune of Thma Puok district. Officials in Cambodia allege that Thai forces have illegally occupied parts of these villages, erecting physical barriers and maintaining a visible military presence well inside Cambodian land.

According to The Phnom Penh Post report, Phnom Penh has formally demanded the immediate withdrawal of Thai troops from the area, stressing that any military positioning beyond the recognised border violates sovereignty and undermines recent efforts to ease tensions. Cambodian authorities say they are pursuing diplomatic channels while monitoring the situation on the ground, as displaced villagers wait for assurances that it is safe to return home.
