The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing has dismissed as “false” a report published by Indian daily Ananda Bazar today, asserting that its claims about the Bangladesh Army have “no more basis in reality than a Bollywood romcom.”

In a statement posted on its verified Facebook page, CA Press Wing Facts, the press wing accused Indian media of engaging in “hybrid warfare” to support former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and discredit Bangladesh’s institutions and people, who, it said, ended her rule in July and August.

Hybrid warfare involves spreading disinformation to create internal divisions and alienate a nation from its allies, the statement explained. It claimed that such operations typically begin with a fabricated story, lacking evidence, and citing unnamed sources in a compliant media outlet. If the story is sensational enough, it gains traction as other media pick it up, lending it apparent credibility.

“The disinformation operation is fully successful when people, misled by falsehoods, take action against the propagandist’s adversary,” the press wing stated. In this instance, it identified the “adversary” as the people of Bangladesh and their right to self-governance, while branding Ananda Bazar as a “willing mouthpiece” for such narratives.

Reiterating that the report on the Bangladesh Army was baseless, the press wing urged Ananda Bazar to choose between practicing responsible journalism—grounded in facts—or being part of a disinformation campaign that undermines the sovereignty and dignity of a neighboring nation.
