Bangladesh will not make any concessions on matters where it feels deprived in its dealings with India, stated Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui on Wednesday. He made these remarks during a press briefing at the Home Ministry’s conference room, ahead of the upcoming border conference between BGB and India’s Border Security Force (BSF).

“We will not compromise on the matters where we believe we have been deprived,” the BGB chief asserted. He further added that Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry has been urged to address unfair agreements with India through diplomatic channels to ensure just resolutions.
“These issues will be resolved diplomatically, but from our side, there will be no concessions,” he emphasized.

One of the central topics in the discussions will be border killings, a longstanding issue that has strained bilateral relations between the two nations. The BGB director general assured that journalists would be briefed on the discussions before they take place, ensuring transparency in the process.
“You will get clear information from us. Border killings will be a key agenda in the meeting. We will not compromise on any issue,” he said.
Need for Equal Diplomatic Engagement

The upcoming border talks underscore the necessity of equitable diplomatic behavior between Bangladesh and India. For years, concerns have been raised over one-sided agreements and unresolved border issues that disproportionately affect Bangladesh. While India remains a key regional partner, ensuring fair treatment and mutual respect in diplomatic engagements is crucial for a stable and cooperative relationship.

Bilateral agreements should be structured in a way that benefits both nations rather than favoring one side. Bangladesh’s firm stance on unresolved border matters indicates a growing demand for equal-footed negotiations, where both parties address grievances through a balanced approach rather than unilateral concessions.
As the border conference approaches, expectations are high for meaningful discussions that will lead to a fair and just resolution of longstanding issues, strengthening the ties between the two neighbors on a foundation of mutual respect and cooperation.
