Bangladesh has called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the international community to maintain diplomatic pressure on Myanmar to ensure the safe, voluntary and dignified return of Rohingya refugees to their homeland.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir made the appeal while addressing the 52nd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad, Iraq, where he is leading the Bangladesh delegation, according to a message received in Dhaka.

Kobir urged OIC member states to remain actively involved in resolving the prolonged Rohingya crisis, stressing that collective international efforts are needed to create conditions for their sustainable return to Myanmar.

He said the Muslim world should strengthen its unity and take practical steps towards a lasting solution to the humanitarian crisis, according to BSS.

The state minister also called for a more effective and modernized OIC with stronger institutional capacity to respond to emerging challenges across the Muslim world and address regional and international crises.

On Palestine, Kobir expressed deep concern over the situation and called for an immediate end to Israeli attacks on civilians, particularly women and children. He reaffirmed Bangladesh's support for an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.

He also raised concerns over the growing spread of Islamophobia, urging OIC members to work with international stakeholders to counter discrimination and promote mutual respect among communities.

The ministerial meeting comes as continuing conflict in the Middle East threatens regional stability and disrupts global supply chains, adding to the challenges facing the international community.

For Bangladesh, securing a safe and sustainable return for Rohingya refugees remains a major diplomatic priority, with Dhaka seeking stronger international engagement to address the crisis at its source in Myanmar.
