Bangladesh has strongly condemned the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli forces in international waters, calling it a blatant violation of international law and an attempt to weaponize hunger against Palestinians.

“This act is a flagrant violation of international law and a brazen manifestation of Israel’s use of hunger as a weapon of war,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Thursday.

The flotilla, carrying humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza, was blocked by the Israeli navy. The Bangladeshi foreign ministry demanded the “immediate and unconditional release of all detained humanitarian aid workers and activists” and urged that their safety and well-being be ensured.

Bangladesh further called upon Israel to end its “illegal occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, respect international humanitarian law, and immediately cease its genocidal war and humanitarian blockade in Gaza.”

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, the ministry said the Global Sumud Flotilla “represents global solidarity with the occupied Palestinian people.” The statement stressed that “Israel must allow its unhindered access to Gaza, where the civilian population continues to be denied their fundamental rights to life, dignity, and livelihood by the occupying Israeli forces.”

Reaffirming its stance, Dhaka reiterated that “the Government and people of Bangladesh stand in unwavering solidarity with the people of Palestine in this hour of grave distress and continued suffering.”
