Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain emphasized the importance of Bangladesh-China cooperation in addressing the Rohingya crisis during a seminar held at the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) on (January 23).

Speaking at the event titled "Our Shared Vision for Peace, Stability, and Prosperity," Hossain highlighted the mutual interests of both nations in resolving the ongoing conflict and called for wholehearted collaboration to achieve a sustainable resolution.

In his keynote address, Hossain underscored the need for strengthening multilateral institutions, expanding investments, deepening people-to-people exchanges, and advocating for an inclusive global trade system to realize the shared vision of peace and prosperity.

He particularly stressed the importance of creating a conducive environment in Myanmar's Rakhine State to facilitate the safe and dignified return of Rohingya refugees currently residing in Bangladesh.
The adviser reflected on the deep historical ties between Bangladesh and China, which have evolved into a dynamic partnership supported by initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He lauded China's development assistance and investments in Bangladesh, noting their significant contributions to the country's socio-economic progress.

Highlighting the importance of narrowing trade imbalances and improving regional connectivity, Hossain called for equitable growth and cooperation. He pointed to Bangladesh's successful social initiatives, including microcredit programmes pioneered by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, as transformative examples of empowering rural women and fostering social harmony. He urged for similar efforts to uplift youth and women globally.

Addressing global challenges, Hossain emphasized the collective responsibility for peace and security through inclusive economic frameworks. He also advocated for the empowerment of underrepresented groups as a cornerstone for sustainable development and stability.

During an exchange of views with a delegation from the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce last evening, Adviser Hossain discussed relocating Chinese manufacturing plants to Bangladesh, particularly to the Chinese Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Chattogram. The discussion also covered establishing direct air connectivity between Chattogram and Shanghai and fostering collaboration between the chambers of commerce of both nations.
The seminar underscored the critical role of Bangladesh-China collaboration in achieving shared goals of stability and development in the region and beyond.
