A total of 2,028 candidates from 50 registered political parties and as independents will vie for 299 parliamentary seats in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, scheduled to be held tomorrow (February 12).

Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said on Sunday that among the total contenders, 83 are women candidates. Of them, 63 are nominated by political parties while 20 are running independently. The number of male candidates stands at 1,945, including 1,692 from political parties and 253 independents.

According to the Election Commission (EC), voting in Sherpur-3 constituency has been postponed following the death of a contesting candidate. Therefore, the election will be held in 299 constituencies out of 300.

As reported by BSS, the commissioner informed that voting will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. using transparent ballot boxes. However, voters already inside polling centre premises at closing time will be allowed to cast their votes as per electoral laws.

Brig Gen (retd) Sanaullah further mentioned that both the parliamentary elections and a referendum are scheduled to be conducted simultaneously on February 12, ensuring that all necessary logistical and security arrangements are in place for a peaceful voting day.
