Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 14 Myanmar nationals after they allegedly entered Bangladesh illegally through the Myanmar border in Alikadam upazila of Bandarban.
According to a press release issued on Tuesday (August 18), signed by Alikadam Battalion (57 BGB) Captain Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Mehedi, the 14 men, of different ages, arrived at the Killaypara checkpost on Monday (August 17) and voluntarily surrendered to BGB personnel.
They were subsequently taken into BGB custody and brought to the Alikadam Battalion headquarters for questioning and further legal procedures, according to The Business Standard.
The latest detention comes amid heightened vigilance along Bangladesh’s southeastern border with Myanmar, where authorities have been closely monitoring cross-border movements and preventing unauthorized entry.
BGB personnel have continued to strengthen patrols and surveillance in the border areas of Bandarban in response to security concerns and the ongoing instability in Myanmar’s Rakhine State.
Authorities are expected to determine the identities and circumstances of the detained Myanmar nationals before deciding on further action in accordance with Bangladeshi law and existing border management procedures.
