Türkiye has reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting the forcibly displaced Rohingya population residing in Bangladesh and to advocating for their safe and early repatriation to Myanmar.
During her visit to Dhaka, Türkiye’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador A Berris Ekinci paid a courtesy call on Md Touhid Hossain, Foreign Adviser of Bangladesh, at his office on Tuesday afternoon. Ekinci is leading the Turkish delegation to the 4th Round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between the two countries.
In the meeting on Tuesday (October 7), the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister conveyed warm greetings from Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and reaffirmed Türkiye’s continued humanitarian and diplomatic support for Bangladesh, particularly for the interim government’s reform initiatives. She also briefed the Adviser on the outcomes of the FOC held earlier in the day.
Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain underscored the importance of holding the FOC regularly to further deepen and diversify the multifaceted partnership between Dhaka and Ankara. Both sides expressed optimism about expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, defence, labour mobility, and education.
Highlighting the current bilateral trade volume of USD 1.1 billion, the Adviser called for efforts to boost it to USD 3 billion in the near future. He also sought Türkiye’s support in creating greater opportunities for the recruitment of skilled and semi-skilled Bangladeshi professionals in ICT, engineering, healthcare, and software sectors.
The two leaders discussed prospects for enhanced defence collaboration and academic exchanges, including increased scholarship opportunities for Bangladeshi students in Türkiye.
They also exchanged views on major regional and global developments, reaffirming shared positions on several international issues. Both sides reiterated their strong solidarity with the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle for self-determination and inalienable rights.
Türkiye’s continued engagement reflects its enduring friendship with Bangladesh and its active role in promoting regional peace, humanitarian support, and equitable development.
