Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has reaffirmed his optimism that over a million Rohingya refugees, who were forcibly displaced from Myanmar and are currently residing in Bangladesh, will be able to celebrate the next Eid in their homeland.

In a message posted on his official Facebook page on Sunday, Yunus extended Eid greetings while expressing his hope for the safe return of the "1.2 million guests" to their country. The post was accompanied by a video depicting the struggles faced by the displaced community.

"Eid Mubarak to all. As we celebrate Eid safely and joyously, let us remember the more than 1.2 million guests who remain in distress in our country. I pray they will be able to celebrate their next Eid in their own homeland."

Yunus had previously conveyed a similar message on March 14, when he joined thousands of Rohingya refugees for iftar at a settlement in Ukhiya.

During the event, he stood alongside UN Secretary-General António Guterres and emphasized the urgent need to facilitate the repatriation of the Rohingya people.

Addressing the refugees in Chattogram's regional dialect to establish a deeper connection, Yunus said: "We pray to Allah that next Eid, you can return to your homes and celebrate there."

He further assured the displaced community that he would personally urge the UN Secretary-General to take concrete measures toward ensuring their safe and dignified return.
