Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has invited Japanese investors, businesses and financial institutions to explore investment opportunities in Bangladesh, pledging stronger cooperation in infrastructure, energy, technology and other key sectors.
Speaking after bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo on Tuesday, Tarique said the two countries were committed to expanding economic ties and building a stronger partnership.
According to BSS, the two leaders discussed cooperation in energy, information and communication technology, railways, infrastructure, deep-sea ports and foreign direct investment. They also exchanged several memorandums of understanding during the visit.
“Today, we have an opportunity to take this relationship to new heights,” Tarique said at a joint press announcement at the Japanese prime minister’s office, known as the Kantei.
He said Bangladesh wanted to work with Japanese partners to attract productive investment, facilitate technology transfer and create skilled employment, turning the longstanding bilateral relationship into greater economic opportunities.
Tarique also praised Japan’s decades-long contribution to Bangladesh’s socioeconomic progress and infrastructure development, describing the relationship as one built on trust, friendship and mutual respect.
Takaichi earlier welcomed Tarique at the Kantei, where the Bangladesh prime minister received a guard of honour before the two leaders held their summit meeting.
Tarique arrived in Tokyo on Monday for a four-day official visit at Takaichi’s invitation. During the visit, he has also met Japanese parliamentary leaders, Marubeni Corporation Chairman Masumi Kakinoki and Japan International Cooperation Agency President Akihiko Tanaka.
