Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Wednesday successfully rescued a Bangladeshi citizen who had been abducted and taken across the border into Myanmar.

The victim, identified as Dulal, son of Ezahar Ali from Baganpara village in Alikadam upazila of Bandarban, was abducted on June 3 from the Poyamhuri border area. According to BGB officials, a group of five to six Myanmar nationals reportedly lured Dulal with a cattle trade proposal and took him into Myanmar territory through the area between border pillars 54 and 55.

Lt Col Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, commander of Ramu Battalion (30 BGB), confirmed that a special patrol team conducted a rescue operation on Wednesday and located Dulal approximately 800 yards north of Border Pillar 56. The BGB team was able to bring him back without paying any ransom.

Following the abduction, BGB initiated contact with the kidnappers through local sources and discovered that Dulal was being held at a location called Mansionpara inside Myanmar, near the border area overseen by BGB’s Poyamhuri Border Outpost (BOP).

After his safe return, Dulal was handed over to his family in the presence of local Union Parishad Chairman Md Kafil Uddin, Lt Col Kazi Mahtab added.

The incident highlights the continued risks along the remote and often volatile Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
